Business Info Guide is a website that shares useful resources with fellow entrepreneurs. Founder Stephanie Chandler launched the site in 2004, and is on a personal mission to find and share solutions to make the entrepreneurial journey easier and more successful. Here she speaks with marketing expert Nikolas Allen, author of the new book, “Heavyweight Marketing – Knockout Strategies for Building Champion Brands.”

Business Info Guide: What is your book about?

Nikolas Allen: “Heavyweight Marketing” is a book for entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to build a more meaningful brand. I use real-world stories, examples and case studies and also include examples from my own experience as a brand-driven consumer seeking excellence in the marketplace.

The book is divided into three sections: Build Marketing Muscle, Tackle Your Tools, and Buff Your Brand. The chapters are concise and easy to read, and I worked equally hard on the design, the format and the layout, as I did on the content. My goal was to create a modern marketing manual that is both beneficial and enjoyable to read. Read more

Linda Parkinson-Hardman: What is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

Nikolas Allen: I’m a pretty private person, so there’s a lot people don’t know about me. I also like to live in the present, so the people around me today don’t know, for example, about the 15 years I spent playing in rock bands. I was totally immersed in the world of writing, recording, traveling, performing—and partying—and had starry-eyed dreams of “making it” as a rock star. That era definitely informed my personal point-of-view, and while the “rock star” aspect of my personality is not as literal these days, it does emerge in different and unexpected ways. Read more

Book Goodies: What inspires you to write?


Nikolas Allen: Life experiences are inspiring. I love words, language and vocabulary. English was always my favorite subject in school, and as a songwriter, poet and author, I enjoy putting words together in fun and original ways. I’m on an eternal search for the “perfect” sentence, headline, stanza, story or phrase. Both of my books are non-fiction business books dealing with marketing. While that topic can typically be dry, I have a lot of fun by infusing it with lyrical wordplay, linguistic gymnastics and plenty of personality. Read more
